Gender-Specific Program
The Focus of Gender Specific Addiction Treatment Programs
In battling the disease of addiction, gender has been identified as a factor that plays a role in facilitating addiction treatment and addiction recovery. There is substantial research that indicates substance abuse among women and the issues surrounding their abuse differs from that of men, and vice-versa. Gender specific addiction treatment programs recognize the need for comprehensive addiction treatment tailored specifically to men and specifically to women.
The Florida House Experience provides comprehensive gender specific treatment programs for drug addiction and alcoholism and addiction recovery to both men and women. At our nationally recognized drug addiction treatment center, we provide the facilities and clinical and medical professionals to support both a men’s program and women’s program for all levels of addiction treatment. Our gender specific programs enhance outcome and efficacy of addiction treatment and provide men and women with separate housing.
Specialized Women’s Program for Addiction Treatment & Addiction Recovery
The effects on women who suffer from drug addiction and/or alcoholism can be different than that of men. Female substance abusers have been correlated more highly with certain consequences of drug addiction than male substance abusers. For example, among the common consequences of female substance abuse are low self esteem, lack of traditional job skills, depression, lack of a strong value system, and lack of a social support network.
As a result of drug addiction and alcoholism, women tend to exhibit lower levels of self esteem and higher levels of depression than men. Other gender specific differences associated with drug addiction and alcoholism include the initial reason for substance abuse, consequences from their drug addiction or alcoholism, social and familial barriers for entering treatment, addiction treatment needs, potential for relapse, and recovery support. Our gender specific Womens Program for drug treatment and alcohol treatment recognizes these findings and addresses them within the infrastructure of the program. Research has shown that women react more positively to addiction treatment when they enroll in a gender specific addiction treatment program.
The Florida House Experience Womens Program addresses health, relational issues, and life challenges associated with female substance abuse. Our clinical and medical professionals emphasize spiritual, biological, social, and psychological issues surrounding women and their disease of addiction. Our Womens Program addresses specific treatment needs and relapse prevention issues unique to women and provides a safe place for women to begin to regain control of their lives. Our medical professionals are licensed and qualified to treat women with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and dual diagnosis of co-occurring disorders such as anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and other mood disorders, eating disorders, and personality disorders.
We provide a safe and constructive environment for women to tackle personal issues related to their drug addiction or alcoholism such as feelings of shame and self-loathing, self-esteem issues, body distortion, codependency, and interpersonal relationships. Specialized Men’s Program for Addiction Treatment & Addiction Recovery
In general, men are more likely to smoke and drink than women. The reasons why men begin abusing drugs and alcohol differ than that of women. Alcohol abuse and drug abuse often begins early in a male’s life, during teen or adult years. Men’s biological responses to drugs may also be different. Of the men who suffer from alcoholism and drug addiction, a certain percentage will relapse after completing an addiction treatment program, leaving them with a sense of failure and discouragement in their battle with alcoholism and drug addiction. Entering an effective gender specific program for drug treatment or alcohol treatment addresses biological, social, psychological, and emotional issues that men encounter.
The Florida House Experience gender specific Mens Program is a high quality, tailored plan to meet the different treatment needs of men. Our drug rehab center provides a positive, structured environment and separate men’s housing to help addicts deal with physical and physiological dependencies, including the withdrawal symptoms from medical detoxification.
